Talking Remote Power and Cam-Loks

Anybody have a decently priced source of Cam-Loks? Is it better to buy assembled cables or make your own?

My assistant engineer and I are getting ready to tear into our truck... the first step being checking out the onboard power situation. I've been into electronics for years, and can wire a studio for power like nobody's business, but I'm new to the whole remote truck power thing. I have an engineer buddy of mine who is building an HD truck coming over to help next month... untill then I'm on my own.

Here's some pics of our current setup.

The cam-lock connector panel. I think it needs some scrolling LED displays like Elroy! Shore power works great!

3 voltage regulators... 3 UPS's soon to follow.

Two Tranny's... I'm not sure how these guys are wired in yet.

Power panel inside the truck. Not in the pic: 3 breaker boxes... full of breakers.

...and some pics of the spools because I think their neat!

Making your own is not hard, just a PAIN. I buy premade assemblies from LEX products.

Let's see some exterior pics of your truck!!!

SWEET! Like the pics. Can't wait to see your interior shots.

Personally, I'd call up Lex products and get prices for 50' and 100' sections of banded #2 camlocs. #2 is really small compared to 2/0. The #2, I seem to recall, is rated for 100A, and I have never found a video truck that draws more than 60A per leg, and its way light in comparison (which will help your back) and way cheaper in cost (which will help your wallet).

Just a thought.

Hey Steve

The voltage drop calculator is MOST helpful! Thanks for the post.

Steve: I'm sure you're up to your neck in things, but I desperately need to hear back from you re: the email I sent you yesterday. I have a producer that needs a quick go/no-go and $$$ answer. Thanks!

Good call, Wes. Lex has never let me down. I'm using two PRG Audio 100A PD systems they built from the ground up on this show, and they are wonderful. Simply great!
