| Paul, TT's, also known as Bantam jacks are not necessarily better. They're smaller, you can fit more jacks in a (19" rack) row, but they are not better. True TRS jack field 1/4' plugs and jacks have more surface area. That's more contact area and you'll need that when the jacks and plugs get dirty. Bantams need a lot more maintenance because of their smaller size. We use TT's because of space issues in the truck. But, you got to keep up on the cleaning program. We have these 3M cleaning pads, I forget the name at the moment, stuck to the side of the patch bay. When applicable, we rub the dirty patch cord connetors on them before we patch. It cleans them really nice without taking any metal off of them. It works well for us.

| The Sony SDRES777 Sampling Digital Reverb processor looks really nice among all the other gear. Does it have all the bells & whistles? Is a club unit or a rental?

A M6k nicely configured was (is?) 2x the cost of the Orville, and I already have the M3k. Right now I'm looking to get a few omnis anda a pair of cardiods, nothing spectacular like you cats use, just decent enough for me to get decent ambience info back to the people on stage that use ears.... I wish I had pics of the racks at the Mohegan Sun's Wolfs Den in Uncasville, CT. Mohegan Sun home page The ****ing place is off the scales! A few years back they demoed the Innovasion Live, I used it...'twas fun - particularly becaused I had used the board back in 96? or so when it was still a prototype back in Paris. The guys there (at the Mohegan Sun) were concerned that the visiting engineer for that night (me) would find digital a turn off. I was a pig in slop. They also have a 10,000 seat arena. I was in there this summer working with an act ...I think Joe Crocker was one of the headliners. They had a pair of PM1D's, PLUS a remote truck in back...I have some pics of that rig....I'll find and post. Later.... NYC Drew | |

| Anyone seen the rigs/racks at Yoshi's Jazz Club in Oakland, CA? Every show I've ever seen there has sounded amazing. Then again, they don't have slouch acts coming through. Always wondered what they were using.

| A little Splitter show & tell I'm in between changing the roadcases that house my three XTA active spliiter set ups. A 48 channel with eight tie lines on a 56 channel W4 MASS connector and two 24 channel systems. Barry Kersh finished the 48 track system a while ago. Today I'm working on one of the two 24 channel setups. The (2) 24 channel XTA DS800 ACTIVE 4X MIC/LINE DISTRIBUTION / SPLITTER SYSTEMs have two active main/monitor outs and two isolated splits plus 32 send/return lines. Each XTA DS800 input includes remote activated pad, adjustable gain, mic/line switch, 48v phantom power, 5 segment LED metering and headphone "listen" facility. The splitter system's monitor output connects to a 56 channel MASS (W4) connector with 32 send/return lines. The main output connects to an ELCO 90 connector. (Two 24 channel systems can be combined for 48 channel operation via an ELCO 90 interface cable.) I figured someone may be interested in how we wire our splitter systems. You don't always get a chance to see the inside wiring of stuff, so... My camera was handy. Check out the wiring harness of one of the 24 channel XTA DS800s below (the XTA DS800s are not in the shot)...

| Nice wire work, Steve, looks great, I love it when i open the back of a rack and see that someone tookk the time to do it right. I repeatedly look in the back of Live cos racks to help determine of I want to hire them, if the cables are in a tangle, chances are that that is not the only detail that will not be addressed on the gig, and they generally do not get the gig.

| 6:00PM EST, took apart the original setup. Just about 11:00PM, got the first dry run together. Tomorrow, I plan to add the rack rails to mount the input and out connections...

| They have cutting edge ideas and carry tons of gear to make it present. The control cabin we were in can handle over 140 input channels without flinching. But, that wasn't the reason why we didn't run out of inputs.  Next week, we're working on a live "rock video" with another band that will be using what the designers call a Photo Bubble. That thing's pretty awesome.

| Brian, We didn't actually used the Photobubble during last August's "rock video," the client went with another technique. But, their website is up and running again... PhotoBubbleCompany.com It's a pretty cool device.

| My pet Colombian red-tailed boa constrictor warming up for a tear-jerking rendition of his signature song, "Feelings." For this gig I used my Song Star S-1 Dual Cassette Karaoke System interfaced with my Sony Discman via Radio Shack adapters (adapters not shown; details of the config can be had by going to thread Don't Throw Away Your McDonald's Super-Size Fries Container). Boots later brought the crowd to tears singing "Feelings," and then some real ballads, through my Peavey CD-20 Celebrity Series microphone. The cd will be released after Thanksgiving, just in time for Christmas.

| My associates and I have been scanning, transferring and editing all my old slides, Polaroids and film stock to digital media... Here are a few pictures of my first truck in the early 80s. I have some pictures from the late 70s I plan to show and tell soon... We had two Tascam Model 5s in that version of the rig. Man, that was a long time ago -- I miss that little remote truck. It was decommissioned in 1984. The last gig it did was a live radio broadcast and recording of the Ramones from the (old) Ritz.
