Smile Remote Possibilities - A positive vibe!

Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and making the Remote Possibilities Forum such a cool place to hang out.

Over the last year this forum has been my starting point for research on many topics regarding Remote Recording.

Without starting a single threat, but just reading thru what is available, I have found well written and knowledgeable comments, informative links, interesting sound files, and a lot of practical advice on a variety of note worthy topics.

Comments by Steve Remote, Fifth Circle, Jim vanBergen, Sonare, David Spearritt, Teddy, Klaukholm, ISedlacek and of course many others, who regularly contribute on this forum help me to constantly review my recording techniques and take a critical look at myself. For a freelancer like me that's vital!! Thanks.

If you guys are interested, let’s use this threat as a place to write about your positive experiences with the Remote Possibilities Forum!

I am sure the list will be long!

Thanks guys!!

Phil.

That's Cool!

Guys,

My sincere thanks for your commentary. Steve Remote taught me VOLUMES when I worked with him, and giving back is a karmic MUST for me. I find it incredibly cool that you posted your comments to such regards.

When you guys get to NY, look me up. I may not be recording (right now I'm behind a PM5D-RH at Lincoln Center) but it'd be cool to meet you, have a drink or two and say hello. I've been SUPER lucky in my life, while I'm certainly still learning every day, sharing the knowledge is imperative, IMO.

Peace,

JvB

No Problem

Thanks for the props... I enjoy hanging out here and love the positive vibe. I learn plenty from the other folks that do similar work. We all have our prefered way of working, but we're sunk if we decide that we have nothing left to learn.

Just today, I got to sit in as a guest on a session over at Capitol Records, Studio A. What history in that room. It was fascinating to hear how others work and seeing another session- from the production to the engineering, it was a great learning experience.

Thumbs up An open message to all...

An open message to all the Remotesters, Locationeers plus the Jazz, Classical and Acoustic Music usual suspects...

I was going to start a thread about this very topic. I’ve have received so many PMs, emails, IMs and Myspace messages about this very subject.

When I read what Phil from Japan PM’d me I asked him to consider starting a thread about how he felt. I'm very happy he did.

You know what? The Remote Possibilities Forum IS a cool place to hang out and everyone that has contributed to this forum made it so.
I just gave you folks a place to make it happen!
We are only as good as the individuals we hang with and I’m honored to hang on this forum with folks like you.

I’m surprised that more people have not chimed in on this thread, especially because of the amount of positive messages that I’ve received as of late.
Many of you basically said that this forum is your de facto starting point when it comes to remote recording and such.

I wonder what we all would do without a constructive and optimistic forum like this one.
And, the big kicker for me is that it’s FREE information. No fee has been attached!
Please, remember that notion the next time you get into a heated conversation about some opinion, belief or estimation.
IMHO, we all are worthy. Please do not forget about this hypothesis.

Believe it or not, I (usually) learn something new every day on this board.
I cannot live without it and I sincerely meant what I just said.
The folks that regularly contribute to this forum RAWK!
Even the occasional posters have helped us all in many ways.

Question: Are we (the thread posters) the only people that think the Remote Possibilities Forum is a groovy place to hang?

Answer: Based on the private conversations I’ve had with you folks, I think not.
I’m relieved that we don’t need to base it on the amount of replies to this thread.
We already know it’s (truly) the best kept secret online and, maybe we should keep it that way.

Karma is the key to everything being everything.

I trust one day many of us shall meet, greet and hang out with each other and that’s a very cool (remote) possibility!

The Remote Possibilities Forum is the most informative and also most sympathetic site on the Internet. I feel I've learned most of my job trying out things I've been reading here, plus it's always polite. And a lot of fun too. It's great to ask questions that must seem newbie-ish to some, and getting friendly and serious replys from exactly those guys.

I'm ADDICTED!

This IS my FIRST post and I can not think of a better place to post it. This thread seemed like the perfect place to land my newly born message.

I've been a lurker of this forum almost as long as it has been around. I can not agree with you more. It is an honest straight forward forum with a total understanding of what people want in a forum like this.

Remoteness and all the contributors to this great forum should know how important this place is to me and I am sure to many others.

Congrats -- you guys are the best of the best. Keep the positive vibe coming!

Another "slut" said he quit coming to gearslutz because it was so "catty". I didn't see his point at all because all I ever got here in the remote forum was anything but that. This is the BEST forum ever, with the greatest in all regards folks. Sometime I hope to be able to pass it on, but I've got too much to learn before that’s a remote possibility

This is by far the most friendly and informitive forum on Gearslutz if I may be so bold. In the past week I have learned more by multiples from this forum than the rest of the site in a year.
Thanks

I wish I had more time to post and more importantly read these forums, they are equivalent in many ways to an education you could pay thousands of dollars for. I would know.

Manage to really sink your teeth into this stuff, even if you don't get it at first, just keep reading on over and over and soon it will seem like a big puzzle composed of many simple parts.

Thanks a lot again guys for this great site.

Yes, this IS a great site...

IMO, Jules and all the moderators have done good work keeping it this way.

And, like I've said before, the Remote Possibilities forum is on the money thanks to all its contributors.

Very strong -- Keep up the excellent participation fellow Remotesters!

Thanks, you guys!

My day job keeps me from participating here as much as I'd like to, add to that the fact that I don't get to work in my passion as much as I'd like to (double "like to's"). However, the high level of expertise here and the absolute willingness to share that expertise, plus experiences, and knowledge as well as impart wisdom unabashedly make this one of the best forums in any profession or hobby (don't take the word hobby lightly, please) that I've ever encountered.

Thank you all, and especially to Steve for keeping this on track!

This forum seems to be the ideal balance of experience, inquisitiveness, candor, and willingness to help a fellow slut without trying to blow one's own horn and sound artificially important.

Let's try to keep it that way!

I hear you loud and clear on your first comment.

I feel we're doing more than "trying" -- We ARE keeping it that way and I truly appreciate everyone's effort on this matter.

Simply excellent!

As a relative noob to the recording world I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have lent a sympathetic ear to my sometimes probably anoying questions.
Thanks to all for being so patient and giving me the full spectrum of opinions regarding this business.
Looking forward to many more posts and threads and increasing my skills. Hopefully one day I will have learnt enough to offer some advice to others.

I am hooked too.

Big Thanks!

I missed this thread when it was a sticky (I hope my ears are better than my eyes ).

I certainly feel indebted to many on the Remote forum for their help. Here's just a few stand-out members who come to mind:

Steve Remote: along with actively and regularly sharing his knowledge he once helped me with a time-sensitive problem by "cheer leading" others to help out. What other moderators do that?!
Rich Mays: through a series of emails, guided me to Metric Halo -- I haven't looked back. It turns out, he lives in my hometown, and we know some of the same people.
A.J.Farber: talked me through recording my first live performance jazz combo event. He spent close to an hour on the phone with me!
Jim Salamone: has provided sage advice on many topics, and always answers his phone. He has also become a local friend.

There are others who I can't think of right now, as well as people from other GS forums who have gone out of there way to learn me.

Great place, great people.

Thanks for all your help.

- Jim
