Is my wireless IEM system jacked?

Sup y'all,
I recently got a Shure PSM400 set-up off ebay for a decent price and upgraded the earphones to e-4's. However, I'm wondering if I got ripped...their is a ton of interference at all distances and the fidelity is not as all what I would consider to be decent. It breaks up quite a bit.

Anyone have any experince with similar gear and what kind of performance are you getting? Of course it is a wireless set-up. When I plug the e-4's into the phono out on the front of the transmitter the sound quality is what I would expect. Any thoughts?

Have you considered the possibility that you purchased a broken unit?

yep...thats why i posted this...and you know...it wouldn't be the first time i got bum gear off ebay...its really turning me off! anywho...wondering what is an acceptable level of interference. might barrow a reciever from guitar center to try and start narrowing down the culprit...well its either the reciever or the trasnsmitter.

Did the person have decent feedback? Can you change the frequency on the unit? An "acceptable" level of interference is ZERO.

With a working PSM 400/600/700, a pair of headphones should sound approximately the same when plugged into the front panel jack or in the receiver. RF interference at all distances indicates a broken RF receiver. Was this sold "As-Is"? if so, get thee to a good, local repair shop, or return to Shure for repair.

Hi Scott

Sounds to me like all of your trouble stems from bad RF issues.
Unfortunately the PSM400 series was not the greatest RF device shure ever made, it offers 8 frequencies between 722-745 MHZ.
These frequencies are very comonly used in most profetional RF gear but the problem lies in the fact the the 400 series have a very low output transmition in comparison to the 600 and 700 series PSM's.
Have you tried to run this unit up at home away from the live environment,it is important to isolate your problem wether it be conflicting RF issues or the fact that indeed your belt pack receiver is broken and needs re-calibrating.
One handy trick is not to run the input to these units to hard and wind the belt pack up a little more, this can course a little noise in these units but noise is better than a distorted sound. Well depending on who you ask that is.
Good luck if all else fails i find the RF n the Sennheiser em-300 series to be rock solid and the units are very reasonably priced.
