SDC Tube array for Decca Tree

Im looking for a suitable mic array for a Decca tree.

Idealy Id like M50's as I know a bit about what these do and I like the sound, may be also Schoeps M222 with Mk2s capsuels which have been suggested by others who have been very helpfull with advice but I have no knowlege of these.

Im not sure if I can afford either at the moment so my question is, if tube, is there an older Gefell of Schoeps mic available and sounds as good and that can be reasnobly easily matched to others to create an array also is there a really good mic engineer who can get these mics up to a modern high standard that is as noise free as possible ?

If not what is the consensus of using Sennheiser MKH20's in a Decca Tree array ?

check out vintage gefell m582 with m58 or m93 omni capsules, they are less expensive than you think and I find them good for this application

There are tons of decca tree threads up here on GS. The search function is your friend.

If you must have a tube mic, the 222 with the 2s cap and a 50 mm sphere is one of the closer things to an M50 out there. The 221 with the switchable cardiod/omni capsule (can't remember the number) is also a great mic for a tree. A great LD mic is the UM57. Gives you a huge sound off the tree, but your top end won't be there. If you use this, you must have a good set of flanking mics with a good top end (I use B&K/DPA 4006) to make up for this and to open the sound up.

For non-tube trees, check out a Schoeps CMC 6/MK21 combo or MK2 (with spheres). The MKH800 works as a good tree and I also have great results with a 4006 using the 50 mm spheres.

Don't forget the m150. It is only 1.5k more than the m222/mk2s/ka50
I would also not get locked into tubes.
Many of the m50's out there are no longer tube mics.
If you are on a budget you could substitute the m222 for a cmc6 and save almost$1800 per mic.
