Question Suitable Comp for live sound

Hi, not a recording thread, but looking for a nice budget live compressor for vocals.

Cheers

Define "budget." I haven't been very pleased with the Behringer stuff, but the Presonus 8 channel is nice. How many channels do you need?

DBX 1066. Clean sound for about $350.

dbx 160 & Drawmer 241 are my go-to (241 has a gate as well and is almost my first call for kick & snare) for live rock music. Also worth consideration in the budget comp camp is the FMR Audio RNC and RNLA. I can't say enough good things about these and the ART Pro VLAs. Do a search on these units, you'll find hundreds of posts.

Good luck!

Nice, yeh I should be a bit more specific. I do the sound for a 4 piece funk/jazz/fusion/soul group. main concerns for compression are vocals and snare, and a little over-all compression. I've also heard good things about the Presonus, has anyone tried double compressing a part with one of those units? Results?

I am going to skip the obious part about why would you be "double compressing" anything in a 4 piece jazz group and move right into my answer

The Presonus stuff is a good utility piece... miles better then no compressor, and if it isnt being crushed, will do what you need it to do. The Gates suck though
