| Any Portable/Remote Devices That Do This? Y'all... Lately I've been getting tons of calls for recording outside of the confines of my little studio...been renting a Korg D1600, but its really not possible to dump tracks into Samp for editing... ... I have researched every maker's web sites, read reviews, sought information, etc...but have hit a brickwall in this. Anyway, this is what I'm looking for: - 8 or 16 tracks with both lightpipe and decent analog ins (will use pres I have) - records to wav format for seamless transfer to PC for editing/mixing - HD preferred over tape based - removable drives for obvious reasons I've looked at both Alesis HD24 and Fostex D2424...but really 24 tracks is overkill... Any/all thoughts, recommendations, ideas, feedback...appreciated more than I can say...my research brain is now overloaded.

| Why don't you make a mobile Samplitude rig? Record to firewire drives and transfer to your studio machine. Don't fill it with lots of plugins and such for tracking. Keep it lean and mean... I've got one Sequoia rig here in a rackmount case and another in a shuttle form factor case. Projects transfer without a thought. --Ben |

| Thanks Ben...I'm kinda leaning that way...looks like by default, too, as what I am specifically looking for doesn't seem to exist (they used to...) I'm thinking a decent laptop with FW/USB2, MiniMe, and a couple of FW drives...

Any/all thoughts, recommendations http://www.genexaudio.com/hardware/gx9000.html I considered 24 tracks unnecessary for my needs, but you're right, there isn't much out there with less than 24ch. Here's the best option, IMHO

| You may want to have a look at the HHB Portadrive. This is used mainly for film/tv production, but it may suit your needs. Cheers, Tim |

| I've seen the HHB PortaDAT. Is the PortaDrive available in the USA yet? On another note -- The Genex 9000 is one sweet HD.

| Given that the Portadrive is available in Australia, I would think that it would definitely be available in the states. Check with the HHB distributors, or the major film sound rental houses to confirm though...I can't imagine that HHB would want to miss a major market with their products. Cheers, Tim |

| I hear you, that's why I asked. It's not in the January 1, 2004 HHB Dealer Price Guide. They list, PortaDisc MDP500 and accessories, even PortaDAT accessories but no PortaDrive. Very strange. Maybe there's a delay in availability, since Sennheiser (just) became the USA distributor of the product line.
