Question Portable monitors?

Well, I'm almost there! Got the studio down to 2 briefcases!!! Monitors are the last step to total portability....

So what's the go here? I need something that's powered, lightweight, small and above all translates a mix OK.

Any of you guys know of such an animal? They'd need to fit comfortably in a backpack.....

Ideas??

There's another thread in here with quite some options. Too lazy to look up the URL right now.

No, but they are fine for playing back stuff to musicians during a recording session...

The other recent thread on the subject is here: Small Active Monitors for classical location recordings

I owned a pair of Fostex 6301B for years, personally I think they suck. They're also kind of heavy carrying a pair in a back pack.

Bose makes a small pair of powered computer monitors that sell for under $100. They don't play very loud but they do translate well. I've carried a pair around the world twice in the last two years and they're still working fine. I bought mine new at Best Buy for $99 when they first came out but Sams club has been selling them for $69 so there are cheaper prices on them now. They're light weight plastic and run on a wall wart power supply.

Up from that I use a pair of JBL Control 1 which I bought used on ebay for $30. These are not self powered. A brand new pair from Full Compass is around $160 US$. I have several small amplifiers to choose from when I want to pack the JBL monitors. These little JBL monitors blow away the Fostex IMO. The JBL are 2-way.

If you're trying to get down to a back pack rig I'd try to listen to those little Bose computer monitors, they're a deal.

Hammer, I love your ID photo. I just looked at it in detail and realized what it showed. Very cute little penguin but he's gonna be sad when that polar bear wakes up.

Peace

Are those buzz saws or concert cymbals? Either way, it's quite provocative!

Oh yeah, check out the little Audix and NHT monitors...
