I've used one here: www.officinemecc.com I've never worked on a Neve series 80 but I like the VR better than the 55 (eq); anyway it's usable for tracking, forget the dynamics module.Hope this is helpful. AB |

So it's kind of a so-so board eh? Doesn't sound worth the trouble I'd have to go through. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I've recorded and tracked two dozen live broadcasts on the 55. Good sounding. I don't love the EQ, but it sure works. The desk is solid, requires maintenance like most consoles. It was never that popular a console for broadcast, though it worked well for me when I used it. If you see a used one up for sale, lemme know. Jim |

For the cost, it looks like a pretty good deal. I'm shocked there is no PSU...but that can be fixed! Jim |

Thats what I was thinking. I found absolutely zero about that model on the net, which is surprizing to say thee least and if the eq's and dynamins are kind of...eh... doesn't seem worth it for me.

We have two of them where I work. They are built like tanks, and although the eq points are a little strange, the eq is pretty powerful, and the mic pres are really decent. Being a broadcast board, there is no "real" multitrack monitoring, although there is a feature called "SALI" that allows you to use the second line input dumped into an aux bus, as a quick and dirty monitor path. We got both of ours for nothing, so the price was right. It's not a "Neve" Neve, but the name does sell tickets, so if the lack of true multi track functionality doesn't bother you, it might be a good choice if the price is right.

I actually have a really clean Neve V55 for sale right now. 32 mono strips (16 with can tranny and 16 line only (plus 4 stereo strips). The whole desk is less than 6 feet wide. Feel free to message me if anyone is interested: ealexandermusic@gmail.com |
