looks more like an encoder ? but very handy
the dangerous decoder : would like to get it as well ... but this would defenately break the bank

might be wrong ! encoding = 2 Signals to stereo without the need of another phase reversed channel ?
decoding = back from stereo to ms for mastering purpose etc. ?

i am confused :-)

How about 3 channels on the DAW or 3 channels on a console with a phase reverse y-cable?

Otherwise, AEA used to sell a stand-alone M-S decoder. Millennia also sells one. Don't know about prices.

Yeah, AEA's is good, I have one, used it on a few projects...works well. But I have not tried the Millenia. Wes stopped making them and a bunch of other products when they went full-tilt into ribbon manufacturing. It's strange, because M-S sounds great.

Sorry this is late, I only just came across the post looking for something else.

Go to www.electrical.com, visit the forums and send their tech Greg a message. He's building an Electrical Audio m&s decoder that should be publicly available in the not too distant future. You can buy early run models now, but there not cheap (about $1000 I think). If your after a hardware decoder I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better one these days without buying the Soundfield decoder which is closer to $3000!

Probably one of the sexyist looking things you could ever put in a rack.

M + S = A
M - S = B

or

A + B = M
A - B = S

In this equasion A + left and B = Right.

Its easy to build with a couple of suitable transformers as a passive unit so its bi-directional, if you like transformers that is.

There's a usefull chart about DMS on the Schoeps site if your interested in that too.
