as far as live performances go, Ableton is probably the easiest way to do it.

many hosts have "live" modes, but I still have to find anything that is as powerfull as Energy XT. it´s not as intuitive as Live, but once you feel comfortable with the workflow/it´s modular approach, you won´t look back for a second.

combining Live and Energy XT was like a milestone for my workflow. irreplaceable.
(you can grab the 1.x version for $50. version 2 is around the corner - currently in it´s public beta stage - the upgrade is free!).

all you really need is a sampler. and a way to create audio.

giz...
i dont know how appropo this might be in meeting your needs....
but many musicians use band in a box as a live back up band.
it also has a live conductor feature you might find interesting.
for further info as i'm tired from recording and dont have time to go into the
oodles of features...pgmusic.com for demo/user references/forum etc...
its being used in lots of scenarios if u read the forums.
by thousands of musicians.

Hi

Could I ask a couple of questions about using Energy XT as a VST plugin?

When you insert it as a plug-in, can you then use its sequencer/MIDI editing in place of the hosts? How does it send MIDI to the VSTis you have loaded up in the host (or do you still load them up inside Energy XT when using it as a plug-in)?

Can you export MIDI files from the Energy XT plug too?

Cheers for any pearls of wisdom.

the answer to your question is a simple NO.

if you cant do anything you need to do in ableton live, then youre not gonna find anything else better for live performance.

the audio quality seems good enough for some of the top people in the biz who tour and play out constantly using ableton.

Maybe they are hot shot producers, but their gigs suck

Suppose i have to perform at some joint, and some dj is playing 145 bpm tech house and i have to perform after him. I cant even adjust the tempo, only that would be enough to ruin a performance

Timestretch will never sound good anyway. Just change the overall pitch.
