Question NYC/Brooklyn sluts: rent-by-the-hour practice spaces??

looking for a brooklyn/NYC practice space with drums (and amps) and PA for sax and vocal friendly jam session.

If the space sounds decent and has a lo-fi no hassle way of recording with some room mics, that'd be a plus.

if you have any suggestions, especially something with a good vibe, please let me know

Ultrasound on West 30th Street. Tell Jeff that Hoover sent you...then watch him get that deer-caught-in-the-headlights look.

Flood Studios in Williamsburg is pretty good, and i believe they can do a basic recording off off the PA. Its on Metropolitan Avenue between Lorimer and Union

There is also Looming rehearsal studios in greenpoint, and the Pencil Factory also in Greenpoint, which has a great setup.

The aforementioned Ultrasound is good - http://www.ultrasoundrehearsal.com/ - also check out (in the same building) "The Studio" - http://www.thestudio.org/
- and Funkadelic - http://funkadelicstudios.com/index.html

nice gear, not trashed backline, not cheap either.

Also,
CMS on the west side is nice too. AKA "big mikes" not sure if it is still there, I think he moved it out to williamsburg.

In Brooklyn, for MUCH more reasonable rates than any of the previously mentioned places, try electric plant studios- he's got 4 rooms of various sizes, p.a.'s and tons of amps, drums, etc., and a very cool brooklyn vibe. great recording studio in house too with one of my favorite engineers around. and rates are good to go! try http://www.electricplantstudios.com/

well, I booked a room at Ultrasound and then after I put the deposit down one of the musicians coming to the practice told me we should have gone to this place:

http://smashny.com/home.htm

so I'm putting it in this thread as another option for future searches.

Oh right, yeah, Smash is also an excellent choice, I did a lot of sessions there a couple years ago. Pretty clean, decent equipment, helpful & enthusiastic staff. Some of the rooms are shaped a bit funky, and most of them *don't* have sophisticated recording capabilities, but they're less of a hole than 90% of the other spaces in NYC.
