Talking anyone tried this: Blumlein for Big Band concert recording

Will try that in a few days' time, with a pair of Beyer M230, for the sax section. Should do some "virtual gobo" (thx Steve Remote!) effect, if my theory is right. Anyone done that before?
Still wondering if I should try some XY stuff for trumpets and bones..

Well, last time a room pair of MK21 worked out great, so there is room to experiment. For the worst case I still have enough channels for one-mic-per-player (which I don't actually favour).
Will try and get permission to post some clips here.

Thoughts?

When I do big band recording, I'll usually put solo mics up in the horn section and then place a Royer stereo mic (blumlein) in front of the horn section to capture a section sound. Works very well for that.

Piano, Bass and Drums are mic'd seperately (as I don't like the washy overall stereo pair sound on most jazz).
