portable mixing position acoustic solution

alrighty,

i need to sort out some acoustics. i need it bad.

BUT the solution HAS to be non-permanent and portable. uh-oh.

i need to be able to transport and erect whatever it is in bad sounding small spaces for monitoring while tracking and mixing.

so, can anyone recommend a product from the likes of RPG or Auralex or such that could get me even half way to a decent NEARFIELD listening environment and quick?

i'm prepared to spend up to €1K on this, maybe more if its really gonna do wonders.

so, suggestions please!

happy christmas,

regards,

richie.

I don't know this brand, but it may fit your needs. they are made in the UK.

You can only get a couple of these on your budget, but they seem to fit the bill.

You can get bass traps and other panels on stands. The photo below shows one possibility.

You have not said what acoustic problems you are trying to sort out. If you are trying to cut down reflections that should not be tough. Just build a bunch of 703 (high density fiberglass) into easy to move panels or bags. They will be cheap, work well and be easy to move.

If you are trying to solve serious low end problems that is a whole different thing and you will have to get into serious bass treament products. Ethans are very portable.

ethan, how effective would it be for low end issues to create a virtual 'wall' of traps around a mix space if the actual room walls are many feet further out, anywhere from 2 to 15' away?

For bass problems it's more effective to treat the room corners directly rather than place absorbers around you. Now, had you asked about setting up a mixing area in a part of a gymnasium, then it makes sense to surround yourself to minimize all the distant reverb sounds bouncing around. But 2 to 15 feet away is close enough that you should just treat the room corners and surfaces.
