Pro Tools M-Powered stops while recording

I'm considering recording live multitrack concerts using PTMP 7.3 instead of Logic Pro 7.2.3 because some clients want to mix it on their PT systems. However, in my test runs PTMP stops recording after 29 minutes or so. It says there's a CPU overload...buffer size is 512 and CPU limit is 85%. I just bought a Macbook 2ghz with 1gb RAM because my G4 Powerbook 1ghz with 1gb RAM hiccuped in PT but not Logic. Well, the Macbook doesn't hiccup, so do you think another 1gb (for a total of 2gb) RAM should settle it for long recordings? I'm writing to an external 7200 rpm USB2 drive, the interface is an M-Audio 1814 and I record 24/48. If PTMP can't record long shows, I'll stay with Logic, and give clients raw files. But I would like to record in PT, so I'd like to know what it takes to accomplish that goal. Thanks.

Hi,
- set the DAE buffer to Level 4
- Set the HW buffer size to 1024
- Turn off the Autosave option
- Deactivate all automations

Now it should be fine

I have a new macbook 2ghz, with 2 gigs of ram, and I just did a 3 hr recording in M-powered with 11 tracks, not a hiccup.

Buffer to 1024 and I recorded to the internal hd. 24 bit 44.1.

Also, you might have to check your pt preferences and make sure you set to allow longer time to record then you need. Maybe its set to 30 minutes?
I like to set to 200. I remember long ago reading something to the effect that it was not a good idea to set it to "all available space"... Not sure though if thats still valid with V7.3...

I had this problem once too, I can't believe a "pro" program is capable of stopping in the middle of recording something, I love digi and I'm considering an HD rig, but they should be crucified for this.

:also: recording to a usb 2 external drive might not be the best idea
