| Lives for gear | Best CD-R Media?
What's up homies? I wanna know what is the best CD-R media to duplicate audio on? I've heard that Taiyo Yuden's are great, and the Maxwell's sound distorted to me. So what are the best to use that I can duplicate my own mixtapes? And which sounds the best? Thanks in advance!

The TY discs are much better than most just for the fact that you will get less errors. Cheaper discs will give you nasty problems that you might not hear at first, but you will after the disc gets mangled. Check out the apogee discs also, but they will get expensive quickly.

khypermedia at office max. I have yet to have a coaster in 8 years. Memorex suck, maxell do too. Tieyoyouoooodons I've had bad luck with. The Mitsui plant used to be down the street, I don't know if they are still around, but they were excellant.

| http://www.mediasupply.com/tyd80sibls-600-100.html I've been buying from this place for years and I've never burned a coaster. They ship the same day you order and get there fast. |

Mitsui are nice! I also have good experience with Tayo's, Sony and TDK. Do not know if these medias are made from the same manufacturer, but they were nice! At all I have the feel, that it also depends on your writer! E.g.: I recorded my 2-track signal with a philips CD-Recorder for some time. It just took these CD-R audio discs, but always had a nice result! Perhaps not the best way for mastering, but for a preview or some demo stuff enough!!! |

Those khypermedias started falling apart on after some wear and tear. Maybe I had a bad batch. I remember they burn good but not built to last. I've been using the TY's for couple years now and I'm happy with em.

It mainly depends on the burner. I get less errors on my Plextor with TY, with my Yamaha burner I get less errors with Mitsu and with my Tascam/Alesis burner I get less errors with TDK. YMMV... Regards, Bruce |

The only difference that's not pure Voodoo magic is that el cheapo CD-Rs use cheaper material that will wear off much quicker than higher quality CD-Rs, which can lead to reading errors sooner than you'd like. The interpolation taking place when C2 errors are occuring is done by the Cd reader and has very little to do with the CD-R itself if not for what I stated above.

Naw man....I've referenced Maxwells against Taiyo Yudens, and the Yudens win every time. There are differences in sound of certain disk. Believe me.

I know some cds suck and some are cool as far as errors but I never thought a storage medium for digital data had a "sound". It just stores 0s & 1s. Right? |

To my knowledge there is no difference between the "sound" of one brand of CDR, and another. Better CDR's may last longer due to a higher quality coating, but as far as sound goes they are all identical. I use Ty Yudens btw, and have had no problems at all. Quote:
