How To Make Vocals Sound PHATTT !

got a Chandler GERMANIUM...

plugged in my U87 (though I used to think that its not really doin' for me !!)

asked my favourite mc to spit some bars....

And BOOOOM!! there was the thickness and warmth that usually only
2" tape gives you. suddenly the neumann sounds like a beautiful tube-mic.
should be a major improvement for all kind of mics.

though its not really low-budget (around $1200) this was the best investment
in years. You'll need less EQ, less Compression and the vocals will stand out
without pushing them up in level. My clients LOVE it !!

so. if youre not satisfied with your vocal chain yet, get one and you'll be more
than happy you read this thread

u can make vocals sound phattt on a lot of different vocal chains w/ some compression & eq'ing...

glad you're satisfied w/ your chain, i'm sure it's a welcome suggestion by ppl looking for a new preamp+mic combo - but u might wanna be more in depth w/ the titles next time... i clicked this thread assuming it'd display a mixing technique or something of that nature.

I used to change between different vocal chains before. In the last year it was either the mic-pre in my ADT Console, a TLA tube pre/comp or directly into the fireface. when the work situation allowed it (an artist with the necessary patience to work with it!) I tracked to 2". no matter what chain I used, I always felt the urge to EQ and Comp (or even distort) a lot inside my DAW using all kinds of stuff (SSL Duende, UAD-Plugs, PSP etc.)

Still it wasn't happening for me, even with my brandnew DAV BG-1U rap-vocals didn't get that special "in yo face" feeling I was lookin for.

Believe me guys, I'm doin this for 15 years now and I heard rap through so many combinations of mics and pres, but when the Germanium hit the scene I was almost shocked by what it does to rap-vocals. Since most of the fellas in this board are constantly lookin for that special piece of software or euipment to make their stuff sound as close to the big productions as possible I just HAD TO share this experience with you, even though I found it kinda "advert-like" myselfhttp://gearslutz.com/board/images/smilies/nu/061.gif
