Thread Starter | holy cow u ever seen a console blow up?
yo i got a alesis multimix8 which i didnt like so i returned it and got an alesis firewire 16 which works great. well worked great. when i returned first console the salesman told me to keep power adapter and said its the same adapter for both models. i get home track half a song and boom!!!! freaking thing blew up and smoke was everywhere. lol the adapter guy told me to keep was 500 watt and it was suppose to have 1000 watt adapter. well i had 2 condenser mics on it running from phantom power. you think the mics are ok? |

i saw one of the old behringer consoles (the "lawsuit" board that was a total ripoff of the mackie 32x8) spew smoke like a og machine once.... but those things were notorious for bad power supplies. the company would actually send you TWO when you sent in a defective one

What was the voltage difference between the 2 adapters? Maybe that did it. A 500 watt adapter shouldn't blow up a console if the console required 1000 watts. If anything, the adapter should've burnt out or the console shouldn't of worked at all. I'd be taking the entire thing AND the mics, if they're damaged (they should be ok) right back to the guy who sold it to you.

new console is on its way. i pick up tommorow 10am. as far as mics i have no way to test them out cause preamp is packed up in garage. just moved to new house. I got the mics 3 days ago so if they dont work imma have to break some knees. and it was a 500watt difference. i was using less than needed. doesnt seem like it should have blown but some crazy reason it did. adapter was hot enough that i didnt wanna touch for about 15 minutes and i could see smoke coming out mic inputs. i always thought you would have to be using to much power not to little to cause electronics to fry but guess not. has any1 used a alesis firewire 16?

This is funny. I had my M-Audio ProjectMix I/O out, since last friday (end of november 2006). I just got out the reseller's store, it was the crappy power supply that blew up ^^. They got me one for free . Hopefully.I first thought this was related to the firewire hot cable pluging / unpluging issue(dangerous according to M-Audio)... Hopefully it wasn't.
