Quick Question About A Mic...

I just got a hold of an AKG C12 VR. Is it a pretty nice sounding mic, and if so, what preamp should I match it up with? I'm looking for clarity without that mid-muddy sound.

Sure, it's a nice sounding mic.... but, in comparison to what? There are many mics out there that cost less and just sound better. So, I guess I would say that it's a good mic, but not a good value.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

AKG C12-VR

Most engineers would probably agree that the AKG C12-VR doesn't sound anything like the Original C12.

A good Mic though. Wouldn't be on my 'To Buy' list as it is quite expensive. I'd want the real deal, or a convincing replica.

DJ.

I agree with Tony. Hey, if I get it for $500, it's a great deal.

Not true. They sound similar, but the originals usually have even more highs than the VR - and those things have about as much high end as you'll ever need...sometimes too much.

A mic pre isn't gonna make your c12 sound muddy.
