MODERN SYNTH/KEYBOARD IN HIP HOP

Hello there,

anyone knows what synth/keyboard has those modern sounds that can be heard in Timbaland, P Diddy, Neptunes latest releases ???

It sounds like a modern synth, maybe there's many synth.

thanx
Romain

I don't think those guys use just one synth. Most of those guys have an arsenal of musical weapons. And oftentimes they are creating their own patches as well. They very rarely use standard patches for their lead sounds. That is what gives those above name producers their identity.

I'll skip the sarcastic and non-funny BS... a list to start with:

Korg Triton
Roland Fantom X
Yamaha Motif ES
Nord Electro
Alesis Ion
All the Studio Electronics pieces

etc. etc. etc.

I'm gonna guess he's asking about the "Euro-synth" sounds. The distorted bassline and pad type things.

I'm too tired...

Hopefully I'm taking it not too seriously. Nor I'll be making you eat some rotten fromage that we love so much (that's why our girls smell so good and don't shave their armpits).

Okay guys don't start to think this dude is coming out from nowhere.
He's behind the worldwide hit "Lady" (Modjo Band). He actually signed in the same Record Label Vox/Vertigo I was in back in the good old House music glory days.

To Romain : You're looking for the Roland XV-5080

(edit) PS : and no, I didn't introduce him to this forum, I just realized who he is (this world is too small)

neptunes and timbo last year or so been Neko.

had mine for about 3 months and have mimic'd every synth/module i can get my hands on.

trackmasters recently ditched everything (except mpc4000) in favor of a neko.

Honestly it doesnt matter if we all had same exact instruments as scott storch timbo neptunes, etc. Its about what we do with it that separates everyone

I wrote that as a response to the previous two posts, they seemed shocked at his question, or maybe the way he asked it(as was I), either way I didn't want to just write he's from France, and someone thinking I'm taking a shot at French people, just trying to state where's he from and why his question might not come across as legit. The same reason I didn't answer it, I thought he was joking, sorry for the confusion, I was confused.

hello there / thx for the help

I'm sorry if my question seemed a bit strange. I was just wanting to expand my knowledge. I know there isn't one trick that does it all, but it's also true every music style has got its instruments.

thx upscaps / thx LCD for the help / thz Zacchino too, I'll try to listen to those synths.

So Zacchino you were on Vertigo ?? what was your act's name ?

cheers everyone

Hi Romain,

Salut! I just want to say that I really enjoyed your Modjo work, fantastic tunes with a really great sound. Lady was a tune that inspired me to really get into that nice clean and spacious French Electronic sound - what is it called, La Touche or something like that.... phoenix, air, modjo, daft punk, costes, cassius, st. germain, rhinoscerese, dimitri, grand popo le footbal club the list goes on (I know I have bought CD's of loads and loads of other fantastic French producers too, but its late and Im tired!), there must be something in the coffee over there......

Anyway, I second what Zacchino said, the Roland XV5080 has some great sounds, plus you can edit quite deep (and layer many times over). They are also available quite cheap now (there are a few for sale in www.soundonsound.com in the readers ad section). I used to own one a while back, sold it, and just bought one again last week from a fellow Gearslut!
