Dynamic mic for rap: sm7 vs. re-20 vs. 421

Has anyone had the opportunity to try the shure sm7, ev re-20, and md 421 on rap?

They are all in around the same price range, and have a lot of the same characteristics as far as what I've read about them.

How do they compare? What are the sonic differences? What is your favorite?

I'm sure some of the cats on here can get in depth, but from my understanding you can't go wrong with any of the 3 u mentioned

I had a thread similar to this, I dunno about the 421, but on this forum & another the majority of ppl recommended the sm7. Since I've posted it, I've also seen it on tv being used by a couple of different artists too. If I remember right, it needs 65 db of gain so you'll need a good preamp too.

Do the other mics also have this gain issue? Or is it specific for the sm7?

Most dynamic and ribbon mics require more gain than most condensors do.

Check spec sheets etc of each mic
