Parallel Compression

Anyone know links or a book I can read/skim to learn the basics of how to accomplish this technique?

Just find out technics for parallel compression, and its works just as good as everybody discrubes it here!
Thanks a lot!
Now i have one more trick in my bag!

P.S.
If you will go to this link:

SSL

you can download progect files with parallel comression for almost any DAW, like Pro Tools, Nuendo, Logic, etc!
You just need to replace Duende compessor in session, if you don't own one, of course!

Careful of doing it ITB with out delay compensation. You'll end up with a comb-filtered mess.

Even with delay compensation you are still mroe than likely to be off by a few samples and get phasiness. You have to do a workaround.

In Pro Tools (I assume that other DAW's work the same way), just insert the same set of plug ins on the "clean bus" as the "punch bus" and bypass the plug-ins on the "clean bus", that way you'll get the same amount of delay on both and no phase problems.

with samplitude 8 i don't hear any phasing....even if I use different sets of plug-ins on each track...which I always do anyway...

Oroz mybe you can explaine to me?
I am a lit of bit confused about second bypased aux track.
I am usin Pro Tools HD, i took kick snare and het and send them to aux track with compressor, everything works fine, i don't have any delay and don't hear phase problem.
So, my question is: do i still need to set up another track, with bypassed plug-in?
Thanks!

I answered your PM first . Basically you don't need to set up an extra "bypassed" aux or bus in HD because of ADC. In LE world you'll need it though.

I like semi-smashing my room mic and mixing it in with all the other mics but that is different than parrallel compression isn't it. In parrallel compression, are you basically mixing a smashed version of the drums with the mixed drums? If you are doing this, can't you just render a version of the drums, compress it and mix it in with the rest of the mics or is that something different.
