MIXIng DRUMS/BASS

HI just wondering a good technique when mixing the drums/without them sounding like mash potatoes, same for bass. I'm mixing in reason, and I work with CUBASE SX.
I am wanting to get a nice phat sound. Where should I place everything else in conjunction to the drums and bass to get a smooth dynamic fulll sound.

thanks

One thing to remember is try to get a nice texture to your drums and bass. many times we think loud before we think tone and texture! loudness comes after the mix stage. also try to get rid of some of that sub sonic low freq's( 30hz and down) that we dont hear but it does take up a lot of room in the mix. try to but alil distortion on your kicks, snares, bass, hihats. decide weather you want the bass or the kick to be the driving force. When you decide that you can begin to build around it.

Why are you mixing in Reason instead of SX? Kind of defeats the purpose of having SX. What you need to do is EQ your drums and bass. With EQ you can control the sound of your instruments, giving them separation from each other so your mix is clean and clear. Reason's EQ's aren't that good so I highly recommend you rewire Reason into SX and do your mixing in SX instead, using Cubase's built in FX, buying some FX, or downloading some free ones.
