| Lives for gear | Please take a gander, some film school students did this for us as part of a class, so we're pretty tickled over just having a video made. Watch the Video here Jackson Pollack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6HjO4Xi8k4&eurl= Editing was done in Final Cut Pro, camcorder was a Sony VX1000, music was mixed in my studio, using SX3 and hardware. The recording studio is not our facility, its one of the rooms at Newhouse School of Communication at Syracuse University (SU), this is also where the film students came from. Little notes. The scenes with a mike, had no mike. The studio guys like any studio guy should, locked up the mikes and didn't bother to let us hooligans mug for the camera with their expensive gear (I dont blame them!!). So we made a mike with a windscreen, a shock mount, popper stopper and a mic stand. (Look closely). The live room in that studio was nice, kind of like an old school vibe. The gear was NICE.....An old Eventide Harmonizer from the 70s, some 1176s, an LA type (I cant remember) piece, a whole bunch of dbx compressors, an Orban eq...2 Reel to Reel machines, one by Sony (multitrack), the other by Tascam (2 track). Yamaha board was a BITCH to operate at first. It was a DM something (a Dm2000) and it had a nice way of making me look dumb. Considering I never worked on digital boards before, I actually got it up and running once I read thru the manual. Truth be told the reason we needed the board to be up was because we had Mac speakers to use as sound for our sync and meanwhile the studio had KRKs and JBLs on the ceiling, so if we could get the DM2000 up we were good. I actually had to use Pro Tools for the first time in 6 years for playback thru the DM2000, which was easier than I remembered. We got things up and thats how we had sync for editing. First music video for the group, first time using a Dolly, second time working with SU grads, love it love it. Yes its shot on video tape and You tube murdered it believe me full quality is immaculate (480p). Anyways enjoy or dont, please leave some feedback, its our first video and we were exhausted half the time shooting this stuff. Bedroom scene with my hair out was the first day of shooting. Greenscreen room (video end) was controversial. We got kicked out so we couldn't finish without any pressure. Guy was a ****in asshole and I told him to mind his own business, he didn't like that ( I wouldn't either). If anything this is one more notch on the belt and experience that will go a long way. Next video, I want at least one crane shot hahaha. Shout outs to the Director Divas of this project. Prianka, Shannon and Gina (we owe you much and love ya lots) Peace Illumination Watch the Video here Jackson Pollack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6HjO4Xi8k4&eurl=

| i liked both the track and the video, but in my opinion they do not seem to be one. probably mostly because the lips are not perfectly synced. might be my slow computer or youtube, though... and i think the facial expression does not always match the sound, so that might be another reason. |

| That's dope man. I got a good feeling that the Goonies will go far. What was the total budget for all of this? Or was there any at all? Anyways, keep up the good work bruh. Oh yeah, check your P.M. I left somethin' a little while back.

| Lives for gear | 0 American Dollars. We sort of found our way into a collection of local music that SU utilizes for its communications and music/entertainment schools. They do stuff like this every year. First project was a spot in a documentary about Hip Hop music in Syracuse, New York. It was all shot on 35 mm film! Bad part is the film got screwed up at the lab and so only the audio was preserved. So theres this great audio tape of me freestyling somewhere with no visual haha. But we basically were chosen by the students to be in one of their projects...From what I heard we were the group to get because the rest of the music was "boring" like Jazz and Blues (both are musical forms I highly respect and would never call boring), but they told us that all the students wanted us as their project. EIther way, we wanted to do Jackson Pollack because the song is really abstract, but since these are Grad Students, you can say we weren't expecting Scorcese or Spike Lee results. We just did what they asked us to do and they let us kind of format the video a little bit. As far as the facial expressions and stuff, obviously this isn't what these ladies do for a living and if you figure they shot this video inbetween a documentary and a few commercials as well as have social lives, this is some good shit for free! They were even nice enough to give us a copy of unedited video, so we could resequence or even do another edit of the video. I own a copy of Vegas and Im the tech guru so you guys already know I would be doing the videos for our group. But I appreciate the comments, good or bad, I can say this is our first music video EVER, so Im pretty excited about it. I realize the mp3 quality wasnt the best, but let me tell you that at full bandwidth the song rocks and I made my setup based around the stuff I learned here on Gearslutz as well as on a few choice forums. Just to put things in perspective Ill give you my current gearlist. MOTU 2408 MK1 EMU 0404 Yamaha MG 12/4 Yamaha GC2020 X 2 (Verses, Drum Buss, Bass Buss) DOD R-825 X 2 (Kick and Snare) dbx 263X (De-Esser) ART TubeMP Studio (Drum Buss) Digitech DSP128 (Reverbs) Fisher Studio Standard 7 Band Parametric EQ SAE TWO PA10 (2 Buss Pre Amp) ART PRO VLA (2 Buss) Im happy with our current sound and this video is one of the few postings of our latest crop of mixes. Maybe when I get the time Ill post up some snippets of before and after stuff. Either way I hope that you guys continue to enjoy our stuff and we aim to please ya! Peace Illumination |
