Which new hip-hop tracks were mixed on a SSL XL 9000K console?

Ive been trying to research but i cant really find any info on new hip-hop tracks that were mixed on a SSL XL 9000K console. I'd like to hear what a current hip-hop mix sounds like on these consoles.

If anybody knows please let me know id appreciate it.

Thx!

Do you know when they bought those boards? By the time they put the K's in, most of the NY rapper's were already doing most of their work in Miami.

Not a total hiphop track but Beyonce's Crazy in Love was mixed by Tony Mas on a 9000K. I think he also did the Black Eyed Peas Elephunk on it as well.

And sorry to break the news to to you but you can't tell the sound of a console based on a record that it was mixed on.

All it tells you how great are the skills are of said mixer and Tony Mas has skills.

I know that the Hit Factory Miami has that board and Rick Ross's tracks done by Fabian were mixed on that. Also all the work Fabian does for Cash Money is on the SSL. So I assume Storchs tracks too.... but why does it matter what SSL?

No you can't.... You'd have to be a psychic.

Tell me which of the following were mixed on an SSL:

Cassidy - B Boy Stance

Ludacris - The Potion

Justin Timberlake - My Love

Jay-Z - 1-900-Hustler

Memphis Bleek - Like That

The only reason I know is because I was there for most of them...

That's just an EQ plugin, though... it's not giving you the sound of a console.

Fact of the matter is that it's getting increasingly hard to tell.......

I knew of Serban Ghenea' mixes back in the day with Teddy Riley on SSL consoles , i didn't keep up with his progress and his mix methods and just accepted it as a given that he mixed most of Usher" last record on and SSL....

Manny Marroquin(one of my fav mixers) also has a mix on the same record and i know he mixes on SSL till this day.....

Point being i love the sound of those mixes and never would have picked that Serban was mixing ITB on those until i read it , so here i am thinking that the only way to achieve that sound was by going outside the box which i had done till then for years , i cann't tell the difference between Manny's SSL mix on that record and Serbans ITB mixes......

It truly does come down to skill no matter the platform , knowing how to compensate for the downfall in either approach will only help you make up for it when you mix....

For example Serban to get a more analog sound throws digi's lo fi plug on certain instruments ...... OTB guys might have to keep hiss and noise levels from external gear to a minimum or mute channels not used to achieve an almost cleam ITB mix sound , although a bit of backround noise helps the songs in an organic way IMO only if it sounds natural and not over the top ...

It's not about being crazy, but have you ever worked on a real SSL console? I'm thinking you haven't, personally. I mean really mixed on one...not a 4hr lab session...

80 series Neves have an extremely distinct sound. It's very easy to tell when something has been mixed on them. Stuff that was recorded on the Neve and mixed on the SSL is pretty obvious, too because it doesn't sound quite the same as being done entirely on the Neve.

I'm speaking from a hard rock perspective. Maybe it's not as distinct for urban music (which I've never heard of an 80 series being used for). But for distorted electric guitars and loud drums, it's blatant. I could name off a rack of albums, produced by different people, that were mixed on these consoles and they all have that "sound" that one can only get from the Neve.

Last paragraph. http://mixonline.com/design/profiles...a_grapevine_4/

I don't believe that people seek out these consoles just because they look cool/retro.

STP I think tracked on an 80's series and mixed on an SSL.

I just mentioned Stone Temple Pilots in the Rap forum...ban me now!!!!
