How good is Cool Edit 2.0?

I was just wondering how good this program is as far as recording? A friend of mine passed his on because he was getting a new setup. Would this be better as opposed to say Cubase LE which I have now?

No, doesn't support asio or any other low latency drivers. The real, lets say, editting of the waveform seems more handy to me, but for production and music, stay with cubase.

What is WaveLab and how much does it cost? I also hear that Cubase SX has alot more than the LE version. The Cool Edit is the full version. What is ASIO? Will that affect the way I record vocals? I am extremely not in the know with this side of music.

My ASIO drivers work fine in Audition.

I prefer Audition for it's simplicity and because it runs a lot better on my machine with my card.

Audition and asio

Hey man,
what gear are you using? I have an EMU 1820 and desperately want Audition (Cool Edit) to work with it. It's only ASIO however.

I can't get window's media player to work with it either, or Sound forge. Everything else works fine though.

Any suggestions?

Keith

Funny you ask that as I'm expecting my new Tascam FW-1082 to arrive today. I was using a Tascam US-122 (which unfortunately had USB 1.0) and it worked great in Adobe Audition. I ended up choosing audition because the card worked like crap in the trial version I had of Sonar and the version of Cubase LE that came with the card.

I know this sounds stupid but have you updated all of your drivers for your interface? And play around with the audio setup in Audition and it should show your card. Set your card as the output, input, and wave output. Again: ASIO worked fine with mine and I believe I was running the ASIO duplex driver with it.

For comparison I'm running:
Dell XPS M140 laptop
Pentium-M 1.86ghz processor
512mb of RAM
80 gig HD

Hope everything works out for ya.

Cool Edit 2.0 doesn't support ASIO as far as I know.

I wouldn't consider it very good for making records. It's good for video post. And it is the baddest-ass two track editor out there. I use Audition for all of my waveform editing - can't beat it.

adobe audition version 2.0 is the first version to support asio, versions 1, 1.5, and cool edit do not.
