Never really had a problem with them sounding tiny (they kind of sound "right" to me!... I just drive the channels hard to beef them up a bit (on a desk that is!)

Did you mean tinny, or tiny as in no presence? You'll have to use your ears, but here's a few EQ'ing possibilities:

Roll off at 300 Hz
Roll off at 1-5 kHz
Boost 6-8 kHz
Boost 12 kHz

Tinniness (sp?) can occurr in the 1-5 kHz range. The 6-8 kHz range will add some brightness. 12 kHz will add "sparkle." These are rough Hz ranges to play around with - the rest is up to your ears.

I drive my neves hard and back the output to make them sound more chunky. almost like they were ran thru a sp1200 drum machine. i like them to have lots of attack depends what kinda sound your going for

BTW: We used to ALWAYS push the 808 hard on the channels. This was on an Allen & Heath Sabre desk and it really sounded nice with the channels being pushed hard. Now, I have a D&R Orion and to be honest it sounds great clean through this desk.
Another thing I forgot when I mentioned it before is that quite often I will pass it through something like a lopass on a synth (usally my 2600) which kind of smooths it out.
I guess I relate "tiny" to "harsh" maybe...
