I never listened for the wide factor. I just liked that it didn't pump like the C2. At first I used it like any avg. 2 bus, 2:1, not more than maybe a db or two of reduction. I just didn't get it. Then I came across an article on here by Paul Wolf, saying to crank it to 10:1 in old, and shave off three or four db. That was it. The flavor of the API 2500, and many records I had heard that compression color and flavor on right in front of me. Great for rock, not for everything, just another brush another great tool. Its a great time when we can afford many different comps, stick em in our rack, and volley through the various units until we find the right one for the song and say, THATS IT, like a glass slipper. Now you got me paranoid about the imaging thing though. Nothing a little DUY wide couldn't fix I suppose (used sparingly of course).
