Thread Starter | New PC ordered! Will there be problems w/ Logic 5.5 cause of 2Gb internal mem??
Yes we've ordered a new PC for our studio!! Pentium 4 Dual Core 2.13Ghz / 2Gb internal memory. Right now I have: Pentium 3 w/ Logic Gold 4.1.1 on Windows 98. We want to put XP on the new PC and run Logic Platinum 5.5.1 on it. The problems we see arising as we prepare to replace the trusted old PC with the new one: 1) I heard that Logic Platinum 5.5.1 does not work proper.. if you have more than 1Gb internal memory. This sounds a little confusing since the more memory the better right? Is this true? 2) Say that this is true... I'm considering making the switch back to Cubase (still got the Atari 1040STf in the basement!). Question: Can you load Logic 4.1 song files in Cubase (SX)? I'd love to work with Logic.. but if that's not possible I'd love to work with Cubase no problem. |

Have you tried posting in a Logic users group/forum?? They'd be better able to discuss the nuances of Logic and memory. Just drop "Logic users forum" into Google.

Had I already had an ulimited budget I would naturally go for the best available setup. But this is common sense ofcourse. I do like Logic a lot that´s 1 and I´ve been able to pretty much anything I wanted to do for years on Logic 4.1. I don´t think consumers go around thinking `Hey.. this was not made on a MAC so it sucks´ I actually have MUSIC as my #1 priority and see the tools as.. tools. Would a Mac a la supersetup be great - hell yea. Is it affordable yet? No. Not yet. Personally I think if I can not get great results on a powerful PC and Logic Platinum 5.5.1 I need to seriously step up my recording techniques etc.

Like so many guys/gals on here I'm in that process of making this thing we love to do work for me also financially. When the time's right I'll most definitely look @ a very powerful Mac. Right now I'm betting my money (somewhere around 1150 bucks incl. a 250gb hard disk, a 80gb hard disk for program files, a ext. harddisk for backups and dvd writer).

When I put 5.5.1 on my new PC it looked like it was crashing, hard. I forgot about the plugin enabler app in the emagic folder. Just keep running it until it tells you it's disabled all troublesome plugs then you'll be good to go.

The plugin enabler sitsw outside the Logic sequencer, when you install it go to the start menue > all programs > Emagic, and you'll see it (a red icon) Easiest way around this if your set on Logic is to insatll it in with the 2 gig of ram, and se how it performs. There's definately a lot cats who have had problems when they put extra memory over 1 gig on their pc's, so it's a known problem. If you do get problems strip it back to 1 gig and see if that cures it. There's a few forums out there with posts on this; http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewforu...ef3e34264a35f6 http://community.sonikmatter.com/for...p?showforum=25 http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/logic-users/ Me I'm currently using the set up your moving to ..but I got 1 gig of ram....I'm switching to Cuebase myself co's I need to step a few thing sup including the memory and I can't afford to go mac right now. apologies for the typing!
