Seeking advice...please listen to these vocals:

www.myspace.com/davidmath

please peep the first joint titled 'hypnotiq free'....that is the artist i am primarily working with...and am looking to revamp my home studio

*please note i do not have a traditional sound booth..and am recording in an open room

after building with the good brethren Tony Belmont, i am thinking of matching these two pieces together...

The Chameleon Lab 7602 pre:

http://highprofileaudio.com/ChameleonLabs7602.html

and the Peluso P 12 Vacuum Tube:

http://highprofileaudio.com/PelusoP12.html

my thoughts on getting this particualr Peluso model is because it "reproduces the airy sonic qualities and the robust low end of the original AKG "C12". Most of the artists i work with have rich, robust low end deliveries...would i be right in making such a move, in your opinion?

of course this is going to be a subjective opinion...but i'm interested in if others think i'm moving in the right direction...

also, can anyone suggest equipment that is less expensive that could produce almost the same fidelity?

best of luck to you all...

respect

d. math

i'm listening... i'm liking "hypnotiq free" has a cool vibe man

only thing i can comment on is, i'm working out my new chain and i do not have a vocal booth either... im looking for something a bit more agressive with bite so the pres im working toward seem to be the API lunchbox set up with a sm7 and the p12 for a warmer/cleaner contrast...

i do know tony has taken the most time out of his schedule to help me figure my shit out... granted he wanted me to get the 47le and gtq at first :p but, after me researching the sound i was truly looking for tony was in a better boat to help fit me up

Thanks for checking it out...

I also was thinking of getting the Lunchbox and even the SM-7....(it's clear we've talked to the same expert...lol)...i'm curious to hear how that works out for you...

I'm going to try and build a mock vocal booth area using some home ec. skills, but we will see how that goes....i have seen condenser mics set up in open rooms and the output quality has been very high, alike, i've seen some good condenser mics used in vocal booths and the output isn't all that great....probably depends on the chain and the plugins used as well....some plugins can compensate for a lack of vocal booth...

best of luck in your endeavors.
