| Attn: Cakewalk Users Ok, here's the situation. My friend, which is an artist I work with, back at home just got a little setup with a pc and cakewalk (some friend just gave it to him, i dont know) with monitors, a mic, an interface... He's calling me quite frequently with questions, but I've never used/seen/touched Cakewalk so... Do any of you know a website that gives pretty clear and concise instructions on how to record, import audio, and minor editing? How to bounce tracks down? I did some searching but couldn't find much... Anybody that can help (and are willing)- please PM me. Thanks. |

To record, just arm an audio track (the "R"), and press the "R" key on the keyboard. To import audio, go to <File; Import; Audio>. To do minor edits, highlight the section you want by holding the <Alt> key down and dragging yo mouse over the section you want to change. SONAR is the easiest app to use IMO.

It's hard for me to tell my friend what to do when I can't see the screen and have never used the program. (he's engineering illiterate) I got through all of that with him.... But what he can't figure out- (and I'm not sure why) is how to create a Mono audio track? And he keeps saying the beat is going into whatever track he's making (wtf??? I dunno either...im thinking routing) But can you tell me how to make a mono audio track- what routing would be involved, and for editing, how do you select the tools? He got a hold of the scrubber tool and was going to town thinking it was a DJ scratching tool....lol I appreciate it- Thanks

As far as the tools go, they should be a bunch of icons for all that stuff at the top of the page. If he just wants a normal arrow he can press "t" (quick key) on his keyboard (depending on which view he is in). Hope that helps.

| All of this does help a lot. Thanks again. I'm a PT user- and besides that I have had little experience with Logic, Reason, DP... I've never used Cakewalk and trying to figure stuff out with someone that has no clue about any of this stuff is frustrating- but this should be enough for him to get his ideas recorded down, which is what he's looking to do for now- Thanks. |
