Midi timing in Cubase - The ultimate guide?

Hi, I'm interessted in how cubase midi timing works. And acctually what midi timing itself is. Some say it is better in Logic, what exactly is "better"?
This is not an issue about cubase way of quantizing, swing etc?

So what makes a better midi timing, and how do I get the best possible one on a PC.

get a good midi interface

make sure you have the right drivers

have some good midi cables for the ins and outs

when using cubase, pray!

actually, make sure that your using system time stamp and not emulated drivers. or vice versa if your system is running bad.

with logic, make sure your running a AMT or unitor, then all is well. the timing IS much better in Logic.

BTW Don't use a midiman 4x4 with anything, they suck.

i understand the need to feel "my prog can beat up your prog"
but i find it a lttle pathetic... and dont see how this can be a big issue as i understand it... since both progs time stamp to the audio and while i cant find in nuendo manual how many ticks /beat they use but how many do you need if it's tied to (in my case) 96,000 samples /sec?? and the things you listed have nothing to do with either prog.. but who knows maybe i'll learn something from this anyway have at...

So "better" midi timing, is connected to low latency?
I'm nervous about it, because I know small changes of timing can ruin swing.
I might try Logic out.

Damm,

I have to make a switch soon from Logic 5.5.1 on a PC to Cubase SX3 to get more out of my machine. I need full ADC so I can use my UAD 1 on buses without a fuss, more memory so I can use more VST's and VSTI's (logic PC can't operate with more than 1 Gig) and also some better time stretching facilities would be nice.

I can't afford to move to a Mac...I would loose too much!! so I need to stay PC

I been with Logic since befor they dropped PC development and I'm still not loving the Midi Timing..stuff never seems to rocord exactly how I play them...so have to quantize to get things tight. I'm using some MPC templates so I can get some good grooves going with different quantize values.

So if Cubase is worse than Logic at this them....this is a BIG problem for me. Other thing is I'm currently using a Midiman 2x4...so that might be making my logic sound worse also. Might have to swap that out when/if I switch!

So lets hear from some Cubase users.....how you finding the Midi?

Also can you import mdid groove templates co's I can't live without those MPC one's?
