Other than bass, does anyone use real instrumentation?

I'm working on a masterpiece right now that involves a flute that appears only once in the intro for about a 11sec. stretch. I just hired the talent, recorded the real deal and I'm extremely happy with it. It replaced the motif's flute, which was surprisingly close to the real thing.

But it just made me wonder if anyone else demands the real deal from certain parts in their hiphop production, of course other than the usuals...bass and acoustic guitar?

guitars, percusion (conga, bongos, timbal fills, shakers, tamborine, guiro, etc), Piano, cymbals, and a nice string quartet and some brass ensambles (also Flutes are really cool) when the budget allows it.

You know me, B3, Piano, rhodes, horn section, guitar, bass, strings, flute, upright. WHATEVER it takes

The key is letting the player give you some of their own vibe on the piece.

IF there's a particular melodic line that you need played, DONT make them stick to your line alone.

Make sure you get a take of your line but get a bunch of out takes of the player's approach to the piece.

THEN it won't sound like anything u could get from a motiff.

You gotta let it grow. Even if it means growing beyond your initial vision. AS long as it dope it dont matter.

Na, you're cool.

They get the session dudes in then sample them.

Actually, and as I haven't billed one yet, so almost serious, I try to use as much 'live' as possible.

it was a joke samplecraze.. I actually started arranging instrumental music(sheet music) for high school bands(70-150 members) since like 1990 or so. The past few years I did a few tunes a two larger college bands. I also marched with SU's Human Jukebox...the best marching band in the land I started producing about 1993-4with a midi keyboard from Kmart and a used 4 track cass. recorder....LMAO I started to take it seriously around 1996-7.

I have a few tracks tucked away that I want to record a full marching band playing it. one of them kinda has the feel of that new OutKast song.."Morris Brown".

So I say, use what ever comes to mind. You can always start over. If you don't try ya'll never know what's in ya head. The more you practice, the more efficient you will become......or should i said.."Should Become"
