AKAI 4000 REEL to REEL A good Purchase?

I had some success recording drums and bass to 1/4 inch tape at college getting them to sound much 'warmer', im thinking about buying this recorder for 125 uk pounds and use it for individual sounds possibly whole tracks sometimes.
Anyone know if this recorder is good for this purpose or if my money would be better spent somewhere else?
