Production Rig Help

So this is what Im thinkin for a first setup..

Already purchased the PC, dual core Opteron with 2 gig Ram etc etc. Gonna go cubase SX 3.0

Looking at the Mackie ONYX 1620 mixer with firewire interface to eliminate the need to spend cake on a sound card.

getting the Yamaha Motif ES Rack with a midi controller..

Who can recommend some good powered monitors for under 1G?

Any other recommendations for essentials?

Thank you in advance for the responses...

Welcome to the site you will now spend all your free time on! whats good? I think alot of first rig builders overlook the importance of good quality audio cables...go with something good! A great pair of monitors in your price range are the Dynaudio BM5a's. I really dig those and apparantly others do as well. I would think about a good vocal pre (aside from the Onyx pres) and compressor. Also, I've heard some horror stories using the Onyx Firewire a while back..not sure if they rectified all the issues (that was awhile ago). You're off and running!

sounds good, ye i think the additional outboard hardware will come as the money comes but regardless, i will definately have enough to get started..

Ive been looking at ebay as a source to buy alot of my gear. Ive heard its reliable in terms of people usually sell you what they say theyre going to sell you...

but what about those guys that do it directly.. They post on ebay but then want a strait money transfer via western union.. Any one had any experience with those types of sellers??
