Lemme take you guys way way way back b4 most of us can afford mpc's

How many of us used to rock the casio's or the optimus keyboards from radioshack with the pads under the lcd screens which had i think 5 or 6 track sequencer with no loop or quantize and if you f*cked up once you gotta do the whole damn sequence again lmao!

and the worst that can happen is if you been holding on to that beat and ya batteries died, or ya cord got kicked out the socket from that stupid ol cousin of yours. Man we've got so lazy on production now i think about it, imagine double timing ya hihats for 3:00 n some odd seconds lol!

A friend of mine had one of those Casio thingies and I was like, this is the coolest thing in the world ! It had those really wicked my-dog-barks samples in it, which were the shit in house music back then

Maybe that was when I became a gear slut

I remember rocking out on a simple step sequencer in "Mario Paint" for super nintendo.

It was cool ,, you put down a mushroom for a kik,, or a star for a bell etc,,, then yoshie would jump on the objects and sounds would fire.

I used to think that was the coolest thing.

I didn't get the casio, but I've got my first piece hung up on the wall now....sometimes I actually miss the simplicity, especially when I'm deep into an alcohol fueled creative binge. It's really hard to route signals under the influence

So what was your next step, guys ? Mine was Cubase on one of those Atari powerhouses I don´t know exactly what the number was - I think it was something like 1040 ST or something.

It worked like a charm. The only problem was, if you didn´t safe your work every ten minutes, it was gone forever. But most of the recent daws still have that feature implemented

Cheers,
Bill
