Vsti's all can sound good if you run them out into an outboard preamp or comp, something to take them out of digital, then back in. In my opinion, that's the only thing they need to put them on par with the hardware. Analog synths will be superior to vsti's for a while yet though. Nothing beats a moog or an se-1 for bass.

Hmmm, I recall Havoc saying he produced that LP w/ a 2000XL, ASR10, and Trinity keyboard (which is definately capable of producing those synth basses).

Fn86:

Most likely a blown out rack or the V3 model keyboard.

Havoc did most of the "The Infamous's" productions on a EPS 16+. Later ,I think around time of "Murda Musik" he started a with MPC 3000/Bass Station Combo.
However,What your probably hearing on "Hell on Earth" is Filter out bass! It's a little trick were you filtered the hi freq's of a loop to get a nice bass sound, it's rather a nice trick I use in of my productions sotmtimes also...

Stress:

Hell on Earth is a product of synth bass most definately. In fact, the only reason I'm not 100% sure if it's a Trinity is because he might have up'd to the Triton at that time (Current setup is Triton, 3000, ASR). He was definately using ether or. I'm also positive about the XL/ASR.

On the New HOT TRAX DVD Vol.2 , Havoc explains How Him and a lot of Big Producers use the Novation SuperNova, cause it Gots that Grimey Synth Bass. He points it out in His Rack Set-up. Go Cop the DVD...Its got some good stuff on it!

I'm sure he's using all kinds of things nowadays. At the same time, to me, his productions haven't been worth checking in over (8) yrs. To each is own.

Novation Bassstation

yo i seen a Bassstation around havoc. Is that what hes banged the basslines out with??

We do have it good. half decent rack synths can be picked up for around 200 bucks nowadays. it wont sound like a moog but its closer than vsts i guess.

Havoc talks about his setup here:

I think the above proves part of my point!

Fn86:

The clear and concise answer to your question is: Trinity/Triton synth bass.

That said, thiers nothing terribly unique about those synth basses. You could grab just about any v-synth/workstation and achieve the same results.

^Correct. But like I said previously, a Basstation will yield the same or similar results.
