Hip Hop backed by live instruments.

Can any of you guys name any really good tracks that has not 1 single sampled instrument/synth sound?

Thanks.

Don't know if that counts:
There's an MTV Unplugged live CD by Die Fantastischen Vier (German HipHop).
Amazing!

no synths or samples, well that means any song that uses a keyboard, becuase keyboards are nothing but stored samples of the instruments in its sound bank. I doubt from a contempary stand point if that exists, if you look at any credits from the 80's forward, you will find "keyboards" listed as in instrument used... Myabe you don't mean this technical, maybe you mean a hip hop song that has only live instrumentation, meaning no samples of previous recorded/released songs.

to add to above post, check out The Roots album "Do You Want More?". the whole thing is pretty much sample free. the album definitely goes into the hiphop classics category. go and buy this today if you dont have it.

Has anyone ever seen the cover band the 17th Floor?
They are awsome. They play everything live. They usually play college towns, but have traveled all over.

I have been doing stuff with Talib Kweli for his new record, and the tracks are great. Been doing a bunch of stuff... live stuff. Mostly with the Fyre Dept (adam deitch, and erik krasno) and they are great. It sounds like samples, but it isnt. On one of the singles I worked on, Norah jones sings the hook, and it is killing... the song is called "break a day." That song has the sample pulled out most of the time. We re-did everything in the track with live instruments. There is a lot of stuff like that, that I tracked live stuff to the looped/sampled stuff to be able to pull the sample and retain the vibe... It is gonna be a great record. The stuff I did for Rahzel was like that as well...

I believe the question was had anyone did anything with live instruments. Not do you like my recording of live instruments. But you keep at it bro I'm sure if you jump up and down enough on someone elses work besides your own, someone will pay attention to you.

and have a nice day.

the 2nd and 3rd tracks are all live. Bass (me), Drums, Percussion, Guitar, Rhodes, and scratch vox all recorded at once. Final Vox and horns were overdubbed.

I know he used a sample in the begining, but I like how he composed his track with live instruments.

The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac Shakur

Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

I know Sage Francis and also Pigeon John both toured with live bands.

And there's a few Sage tracks with a live band behind him.
