Settings for Technic 1200mk5 w/ortofon for scratching

Please can someone help me with the setting on the Technic 1200. I just bought this and wanted to use it for both Scratching and listening to my old old record collection but mainly scratching. I also bought a Ortofon needle. The sales guy said it's one of the best for scratching. Sorry, I haven't used nor scratched with a 1200 in a while and when I did it was already set for that purpose.

Thanx Guys

you need to setup the three pins in the tonearm joint first

This procedure is a little detailed and best if you find someone who can show you

but...

it should not be loose at all and their should be no tension in any of the 3 screws/pins

You might mess it up if you do it yourself

once you have the tonearm setup you need to balance the arm, with the cartridge in the arm, so that it hovers parallel with the deck

when you have it balanced, set the counter balance weight value to zero

2-3 should do it but everyone has their taste

now you can add weight so that it won't jump when you scratch.

sometimes the tone arm needs adjusting, rotation wise, where it is attached to the joint, but this is unlikely

diagrams would help. search the net.

I remember instructions even came with needles I bought

good luck

Thanx...I still confused because I got this one and it just plugs right in.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--ORTNCS

I got the Night Club S Concorde Series.

If you go to the link maybe that will help in helping me. It has the details on the needle.
Anybody on this one???

Thanx So Much!!!!!

The key is having the 1200 level by adjusting the rubber feet, get yourself a level from the hardware store and you will be amaved at the difference.

Hey!! I miss my 1200's :)

The Anti-Skating was usually set to 2.5-3
Weight set to 5 or higher (don't set too high, you'll trash your records...hahahaha)
Height depends on the record thickness, but 3 is a safe setting. I think I used to use 4 most of the time....
