SM7b or RE20

So I'm looking for a new microphone for some male rap vocals. At the moment I'm using a Rode NT1-A but I don't like the top end on this thing. It's way too hyped and I seem to have to go hard at it with a de-esser everytime I record myself (partly my voices fault, admittedly). I recently bought a Groove Tubes Brick and although this does help in adding some warmth and fullness it still doesn't tame the top end enough for me. So, I feel a different mic is probably a good move.

Anyway, I've been recomended both the Sure Sm7b and the Electro-Voice RE20 and I'm wondering which you guys think would sound best for this particular application and with my mic pre (Groove Tubes Brick).

Bare in mind I don't have a treated room or dedicated booth (one reason I'm looking at dynamics), but the Rode doesn't seem to pick up too much noise or reflections so if you have any other suggestions I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

Jon

P.S. I'm in the UK and both these mics cost around £400 here (outrageous). And yes, I know I should really try both out but I'm just looking for some general advice for now.

I always used the SM7 for rock, RE20 has less proximity effect thant the SM7.

But, beside that....both will do the same job rigth. It will be more personal taste.

Hope it helped

What's the diference between an SM7 and an SM7b?

Thanks.

I think it's just a sort of updated model. Much like the Rode NT1 is now the NT1-A

Thats just a guess though

The SM7b has a higher output.

No, no. I wasn't complaining. You're obviously a busy man, just thought I'd enlighten you as to who sent it.
