equing on hip hop vocals

hi mates,

i m working on a hop hop cd, with young french rappers( from 8 years old to 20), its the first time for them in the studio and its the first time i record and mix in my studio

when i listen to the takes i ve done, i think i have an acoustic problem in my close micing room, i ve found that a glass was resonating and feeding the mic with 200-320 hz, givin a ringing in that frquencies

i use and adk ad 51 s wich i know works not too bad, in a tl audio and to my rme

this problem, i working on it by putting heavy materials(neoprene) to stop this lo med ringing

but now i have to mix it, they dont have money and i really want to help them( i usually produce drum and bass), so i heave inserted a uad multiband comp to control this area 200-350 and it works on vocals that havent their lo energy in that range

for others type of voices, cutting this area stop the riniging but stop the presence and warm too

i m thinking about a noise gate but i ve never really used it ( i m use to tweak the adsr in samplers), can you give me important points and plug ins ideas?

is there a tip to give more lo presence to hip hop vocals?( i know it should be at the take but i m a beginner, man)

an idea for a plugin to give a little bit reverb( i prefer to use chorus and delai) but i have heard reverb effects really cool in hip hop stuff

thanks to all for knowledge, i give you an idea, for those who want thant tight hip hop kick , take the "shack up banbarra" kik, i use it in drum and bass and i hear more and more hip hop beats ( i even have heard it in britney spear track), itq a must

bye and thanks

the only useable answer i could possibly think to give is simply experiment and listen.
without hearing the shit, anything else said is speculation (aka bullsh!t) in my opinion.

and bolt everything to the deck
stuff flying around in the spaceship ain't too good.

gates are underestimated IMO, for feel of the groove

A room problem can't be solved with plugins man. You seem to have an accoustic problem with the ringing and using a plugin t

I'm sorry man but if you recorded it like that there is no easy way for someone to help you knock it out without dulling it. Tracking problems with vocals almost always have to be redone. I almost always will rerecord something before I spend time trying to fix it in mixing. I just can't stand listening to a source over and over that was recorded poorly.

Best of luck to you!

Those are horrible frequencies to have problems with.

Get an SM7 or RE20, or get a new room to record the vocals in.

thanks mates,

i know i cant solve the problem by plug, its why i m gonna put heavy neoprene texture to stop that lo med ringing, yes man i know i dont write english very well but yo have to read i what i wrote

no matter, i was asking tips to try to rescue the more as possible the voices, these are kids, they dont have money, i dont have much time

i know how i ll do the next time , even if i never do hip hop vocals, i make beats for rappers( work with mc jamalski, from ny, but its more a friend that a job)but i m interested by puttin singers in drum and bass tracks and all my friends are hip hop mc, i ve done a mic room to help them the more i can

well, i m gonna solve acoustic problem, do you have ideas about a voice channel( i m waiting for 2 clones, ssl 400 buscomp and a vintech eq)

what about a cheap mic?

any tips to give presence to the voice( spreading etc )?
