M-Audio BX 8A vs Event Tr8?? What do you prefer and why??

i am tryin to buy monitors for my setup at home. Which one do you engineers recommend out of the 2??

M-Audio Bx8a Vs EVENT TR8

I dont really need it for mixing cause i am not an engineer. i just need so i can hear my stuff making rap/hiphop beats. i need something that can handle the lows as far as drums & bass.

which one out the 2 sounds more accurate and has a solid sound? and not too harsh on the ears. can you engineers give me pros/cons if you have used them before?

In this cas it mostly depends on how much do you want to put in active monitors...

Another question,
What monitors do you really dig ? Thus maybe we can find something in the price range that comes close to it.

I've heard the Mackie HR824 are close to what you described. You don't need subs with these beasts.

my range is from $300-700. how much is this mackie one? i need a pair.

i havent checked out any yet. i went to guitar center and the guy recommended m-audio and it sounded pretty decent. if you buy bx80 then u can also get their SBX subwoofer for 200. i thought that wasnt bad for the price.

my engineer suggested i should run with Event TR8 instead of M-audio. I wanted to see what other professionals feel?

I've not heard the M-Audio to be honest... But it's not like they're running for any kind of award as far as I know. Sure it's a good budget-conscious investment.

Ouch, just checked the price, it's about $1200 for a pair of HR824...

Did you hear the Event yet ? I can't tell you about these, but I've heard good things about Event's speakers.

Don't forget to try the Dynaudio Acoustics BM5A ($1000)
http://www.dynaudioacoustics.com/Default.asp?Id=3680
I've heard them, and they were really sounding accurate on every genres, no kidding. And their SPL is very wide. But if you have enough money to go with the Dynaudio, maybe you will prefer then to put some more $ for the HR824 (the neptunes work with these as far as I know).

Also, try Tony's advice, the Blue Sky MediaDesk 2.1 ($500) I'm sure they're worth a try. Plus, they fit in your price range, and if Tony is bragging about it, you'd better give'em a try. He says they translate really well, which is the most important when making instrumentals !

I know this is not a very helpful response, but the monitors you use don't really matter, as long as you know them, and the room you mix in. if the mixes translate well then you're o.k.

I use Event TR8s myself, But to be honest, unless your room is properly designed and you are spending thousands, there are going to be weaknesses on all these priced monitors.

Listen to lots of recordings on the monitors and get to know them. In the end they are both going to be fine. Choose the ones which look the nicest.

josha: while I realize what you're saying, it is not entirely accurate

Some, often more expensive, speakers actually broadcast the audio in ways that you can hear things that with other speakers is impossible to hear. As you're composing, it would be to the best advantage to hear every possible part of the music you can.

Only once you know you're hearing every part of the music can you then use your knowledge of the room and acoustics.

Yeah, of course, i realise this. However, the original poster is talking about 'budget' monitors, only a few hundred dollars-In this case, there are pros and cons all over the place, and the choice is not so crucial. Its about knowing the limitations and working with them.

Really high end speakers in a good room, will, of course, deliver amazing transparency.

The choices I would've aim for would be :

-Fair Budget Monitors ($500-$1000... and this doesn't mean it's cheap!) :
BlueSky MediaDesk 2.1
Event TR8s

-Mid-Class Monitors ($1000-$1500) :
Mackie HR824 (with switches for cutting the "against the wall" bass issue)
Dynaudio Acoustics BM5A
ADAM P11A
JBL LSR4328P (with the auto room mode correction system)

-First Class Monitors ($1500-$3000)
JBL LSR6328P (with the "manual" room mode correction kit)
PMC TB2S-A

As far as you don't go for the berhinger or other brands that make ugly copies of award winning monitors, you're good to go.
