First time post long time lurker, but my only question is Who has a Snare sample like the one in the video? The Dark one, Ive tried about 13 times and went thru my whole Hard drive (3TB extrernal filled to the brim, im a sample Drum Sample JUNKIE) trying to find/make something similar, it almost sounds like a kick to me, i even hooked up my laptop outs to my mbox and tried to sample it but it wasnt open so it didnt work

P.S. Thanks to all the guys on here who are on here genuinely helping people when they dont have to because they've made it in this industry already, I.D. Labs, Soy Sos, Ken Lewis, Storyville and such its much appreciated

lol yea yea, Ive been making beats for about a year now so you know the first couple months I had to do what most beginners do, Download anything and everything free the internet has to offer, thinking i NEEDED it, now I have my Go-To's but its still fun to explore random folders when i cant think of anything i want to make.

that being said its more like a door knock to me than a snare, ive tried rolling off the tops of punchy snares, playing snares an octave down and sending it through a transient designer to add punch back, bitcrushing and rolling off the tops. I was at it for atleast 2 hrs the other night.

Hey Cam,
I would advise you in a Yoda like fashion not to think of the process in that way. Sure, as you're just starting out, imitation is an exercise that can be useful in building your skill set. But honestly, I would urge you to try and seek a sound you like rather than copy someone else. If nothing else, maybe going through you entire 3tb of sounds made you more familiar with what you have.

Trust me, pick a snare quickly and get to work.

Na not anymore, I originally had become content just saving a few dark snares from my experiments and moving on. Then last night around 3am I was trying to get some sleep and this "knock" sound I had sampled from a Rick Ross track popped in my head so i had to fire up the computer pitch it down, roll off some top end, shorten the envelope in the sampler, and boom thats what I was looking for! lately Ive been on a quest to make tracks with more emotion so this was perfect
