HELP HELP!! Recording and Mixing Hip Hop Vocals/ Logic Pro

Yes. I am currently using a home studio. I am running a Mac book pro, Apogee Duet, and my mic is the AT4040. Also just bought the sE reflection filter, and iZotope Nectar.

Yes, Im pretty sure than im not getting the sound that I am looking for is a user error. But im pretty new to mixing. Im here asking advise for mixing and recording tips. I'm pretty sure the equipment I have is suitable for my needs, I just dont know how to get that sound out of it. Please, any advise is welcomed.
Thank you.

Mic position, the room your recording in, and the location of the room your recording in play a huge role in the sound you get when recording.

I would play with these 3 things and if you cant get a good vocal take, then you need to treat your recording enviroment and/or improve on your vocal recording techniques.

Maybe you should post a sample of where your at with the sound so to better help others steer you in the right direction. Hard to tell someone how to get where there trying to go without knowing where there coming from.

Please don't take this as an insult, but only because I've done this before. Make sure your mic is facing the right way.

Oh ok. I went and bought the iZotope Nectar studio suit. I like it, I like what it has to offer. I think it would be great if I knew how to navigate thru it. Any suggestions with how do do a proper mix?

I didn't listen to the track (sorry) but i like to apply nectar on a bus. In parallel or on the strip however you choose or what works better for the song. I really like the modern up front hip hop pre to start and tweak from there. The radio fx is cool for ads or backing you really jus have to experiment, I don't use it to often now, but it will get you a nice vocal with minimal effort. However, Nectar won't "butta up" bad tracking and be mindful of the eq and compassion it applies, bcuz both effect you mixing decision of other elements in the record. Good luck and have fun!

Im not entirely sure. could it be due to the mic level, or the gain being to high?

Definitely could. Or compression, or some type of tape or analog plugin, or a number of things really. Did u hear it while u were recording?

Apply some panning so that your vocals don't fight over the rest of the track for space. Apply some gain(or compression) on the vocals to make them stand out. Get them as loud and as clean as you can. Cut out the hiss.

the vocals sound real hollow, not thick clear and upfront . are you recording in a closet? I use a reflection filter also when at the crib and I get excellect clear, dry recordings. I also use a a designs p-1, ua 610 and a pearlman and a u87. I don't know about a at4040 but I know something in your change is giving you bad results. I would try to remedy the problem by treating the room or moving to a different room. Also, the effects might not be setup properly
