need help starting off (indie engineer)

first i want to say im pretty new to this and im going to MMI Madison next semester for recording and music technology but i want to get a start now ive been researching online and digging through the forums here which are really helpful so i have a basic understanding of what i need.

-interface looking to spend 100-400
-mic 100-400
-monitors 100-400
-headphones 100-400

as far interfaces go ive been looking at the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
and for the mic Behringer B-1
monitors m audio bx5 d2

im not sure if i need anything else to get started. any and all help is really appreciated. mainly looking to help record and mix some mixtapes and maybe an album for a couple people that i know for now until i go to school.

i currently have cubase ai 4 and also pro tools 10
this is my first thread and definitly not my last looking forward to being apart of the community here thanks guys!

Decent way to start there...

The only thing I don't like in there is the Behringer B-1. I still have 2 B-2's I bought as my first mics....one is now fairly inoperable. Makes a great crappy telephone type sound, the other one is just....meh.

Push toward the upper end of the price range and pick up an AT-4040, Rode, sE or something.

I'm an admitted AT fan, and have used or own most of their mics and own 3 different models of their headphones.

Always a good bang for buck mic.

What are your thoughts on the audio interface that I listed? And are there any that you would suggest ?

Try looking for a used BLUE Bluebird, its a pretty good mic for your purposes. You can probably find one used for around $200.

Also my first monitors were the original bx5a and i thought they kicked ass, never shoulda sold them. Good luck, and just rec rec rec!
