Tape 3rd Harmonic what??

hi guys, i just read about tape effect and distortion in the 3rd harmonics but i totally dont understand the whole thing..
does it mean that if ive got a kick with a fundamental freq of 60 hz (for example) the frequencys arround 240 hz get distorted? whats the effect of the tape in the frequency spectrum??

Ahhh, Audio Science. It bores me to death, really; I honestly don't fully understand the science behind it and have had this bookmark for years, maybe you'll actually finish reading the whole thing, unlike me:

Fundamental Frequency and Harmonics

The 3rd harmonics are the uneven harmonics while the second harmonics are even...

3rd harmonics are introduced for example when distorting a guitar amp and are rather aggressive sounding...

I heard somewhere recently that its something like the tape takes 100hz frequencies for example and adds 50hz and 150hz to it, which is what gives it its fat sound. idk though and agree its boring shit

Kinda not really. When you drive tape in to distortion third harmonics start to emerge. There is a lot more to why tape has a particular sound, and kicks are not always "fatter" off tape.
