USB Mixer VS Interface

This may have been covered but I really coldn't find a definative thread. Im just now stepping into the software DAW world (yeah, I know). Just wondering which would be better for a person such as myself who is using alot of hardware (multiple sampler/drum machines, 2 modules and 1 Fantom, pre's, eq's and comp's). With that said I still havent selected a DAW and would be open to suggestions. Im looking for something simple to operate, Im not looking for anything for production. I would just like to be able to add some polish to my beats and record vocals. Thanx in advance

To each their own, even if your new to the DAW world. That's why there are no responses.

I would learn as much as you can about the USB mixer/interface you want and the audio interface you want and then make a decision on what to get.

If you cant afford something with at least 48 faders and something that has total recall of each session, i would get an audio interface and not a USB mixer. But that is just me and my opinion.

This decision doesn't matter if you use allot of hardware or allot of software or some of both. either one. So get what ever one you want as they do not care if you use allot of hardware or software.

Actually, thats all I needed. I research like hell, but a little practical knowledge like that makes all the difference. I thought that was what GS was here for. Thanx.

The Allen and Heath is a tad too much for me to purchase without having to deal with my wife talking smack but the midas Venice may be just what the doctor ordered. Once again, thank you

There's also the tascam DM 4800 witch can be used as a controller FireWire interface with 24 faders and built in FX for around $3500

Another option is to get a mixer with direct outs on each channel, or enough of them where it doesn't bother you, and get an interface that supports enough inputs. A lot of interfaces are capable of doing 24 or more tracks now if you use ADAT. Then you have the option of using whatever mixer you want, assuming it has enough outputs. You can choose your interface, obviously, as well.

Sounds like you are looking for an interface plain and simple, if you are moving into the software world you probably won't be in need for a mixer. You probably just want to get an interface with enough inputs to suit your fancy. Since you are going to be in the software realm your DAW will probably have exactly what you need to be doing any mixing. I would just invest in an interface with enough inputs to support your hardware.

I had assumed that the usb/firewire mixer was basically an interface with a control surface. I already decided on studio one as my daw. I just wanted the easiest way to incoporate all my outboard gear and drum machines, samplers and keyboards.

Gonna check into Ableton, just read the soundonsound review of studio one and they said it's not too good for using multiple synths/modules.
