Please suggest entry level monitors

I previously inherited some behringer truths and the high frequency drivers on both of them are ruined. I only have $500 max to spend for monitors, please suggest something.

Had my eyes on

KRK RP8 Rokit Powered 2-Way Active Monitor

Event TR8XL Tuned Reference Biamplified Monitors

Thanks

+2 on the Events.

I've used the m-audio bx8 monitors and they're decent. Speaker placement gets a little tricky with them, tho. You can lose the stereo image pretty quickly if you don't pay attention to your speaker/seat position.

get the events and let us know how it goes.

i suggest the RP5's with the RP-10s sub over the RP8's.

should be within your budget too.

if you can, the original 5" m-audio speakers (SP-5) actually sounded decent and they were cheap as shit.
i've heard good things about the blue sky's too

Try to save up another $500 and get a pair of Dynaudio BM5A monitors. My favorite (somewhat affordable) near-fields I've ever mixed on.

yeah.

I gotta jump on the daddy kev boat and say I can't get enough stuff like that track you did with micah 9.

that jazz shit works it.

anyway, I mix on budget monitors. The ones I use are known to not be exactly flat, but my walls aren't exactly treated. I use sampson resolvs and I'd probably not go with those.

what can I say, I'm in mixing hell, but tracking heaven.

Your monitors are one of the most important aspects of your entire studio. Save a little money and buy some decent monitors!! (Mackie HR824, Event Studio Precision 6, ADAM Audio A7, etc.) Also, more importantlly, if your room is not treated properly then you should look at that problem as well. The event asp 8's are a bargain for thier quality, they are very good to mix on, I mix hip hop all the time and they are quite honest speakers.

I'm surprised no one has suggested getting some good headphones. With a limited budget I think that that is the way to go...no worries about the room and more accurate than any monitors you can get in the same price range. Before I got my NS-10's I bought some HD-600 headphones and think it was a good choice.

nobody suggested it because it's a bad idea. i'm no pro, but even i know mixing on headphones sucks bigtime.

re: headphones, do not trust a headphone mix lol

on a side note, after hearin the dynaudio recommendation above, I did some hardcore internet research, and found many, in fact the majority, of people saying they are leaps ahead of the mackies, despite the rated low freq response. So what happened?
I sold my mackies for only $150 less than what I paid 2 years ago ( great value keepers ) and bought some brand new dyn's AND saved $50.

What a tuesday :D

As halfguard and by-tor already suggested... The Blue Sky Media Desk system is the best system you can get for $500. No doubt about it... If you are doing hip hop, you need a sub and the mediadesk sub is damm good for the money! I'm knocking some 808 kicks through it as I type this. Sure, they aren't capable of club type volume levels, but we're mixing here and these are quite capable of sufficient spl.
