Thread Starter | Rap in anything other then 4/4
Can some of you post some rap music done in a different time signature then 4/4? Try to post the time signature as well if you know it.

Eminem has one on the last album I believe - 6/8 is cool for the laid back feel it gives

Flo Rida "Right Round" is in 12/8.
You can count 3 syllables per beat:
1 2 3
"Top - of - the"
1 2 3
"watch - her - go"
Each bar still has the usual 4 beats. Kick/Snare/Kick/Snare, but each beat is divided by 3 instead of the usual 4 1/16th notes.
Rihana "SOS" and Katy Perry "Kissed a Girl" are also 12/8. Most DJs are ignorant of this and so try to mix them with 4/4 songs to disasterous results.

I'm not sure what it is since I've never passed any music theory classes, but Hell Of A Life by Kanye is not 4/4
if I were to make an uneducated guess I would assume that would be an example of 12/8 ?
unless there's such thing as 6/4

You are talking about phrase length. A song may be in 4/4 and have irregular phrases (Everlong by Foo Fighters is a classic example of a 7 bar phrase in pop music).
A crazier example is Hey Ya by Outkast which is in 4/4 but has one 2/4 bar in the middle of its 6 bar phrases!!

There's lots of rap songs in 6/8 and 12/8 but to find a legitimate 3/4 is tough!!

Just because the bassline (or anything else) doesn't constantly repeat the same thing doesn't mean it changes the time signature.

Well the funny thing about time signatures...
Turns out you can use pretty much any time signature you want for any song, you just have to write the notes out differently.
So arguing over what is what is rather pointless.
Now, that isn't to say songs don't get written with a time signature in mind (typically 4/4), but technically speaking there is nothing to confine you from changing that to ANYTHING/ANYTHING so long as you accurately transpose the timing notation.

How difficult would it be if everyone had a different opinion of the time signature of a rap song with standard accents and rhythm at 88 bpm? It would be hard to communicate!
