advice on my new setup

Wagwan.

So I just recently copped an MPC 4000, Yamaha Motif, Acces Virus and that coupled with my lil' Mackie Onyx is my main setup.

Despite the MPC being a royal pain in the ass to learn, I have to clue how to really coordinate my setup efficiently.

Basically what I want to do is use my MPC as the main workstation for sequencing my instrumentals and programming drums. I want to use the Motif and the Virus for the instrumentation.

Example: I lay down my drums on the MPC 4000 in a couple sequences to represent the intro, verse, and chorus. Then I want to lay down some chords from the Motif. After that I want to use a lead line from the Virus, etc.

How should I do this? Sample the Motif or Virus playing as an audio file?? Any suggestions on how I should wire it?

midi dude.

Set the midi channel on the virus to the track on the mpc sequencer (turn midi on on the channel and set the channel on mpc/virus the same).

Same with the motif - you can setup multiple individual sounds and programs coming out of the motif using the mpc to sequence and sending the audio into your mackie.

I would set it up to sample both of them though by using a set of outs on the mackie to go back into the mpc. You can get creative by sampling the same sound/sequence you midi - filter one out or something. The mpc is easy to work with once you get use to the sequencer it goes real quick.
